Upcoming 5-6 Week Zoom classes:
RESPONDING TO THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC with Rev. Dr. Barry Steiner Ball
Mondays, March 6 - April 3, 2023 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
During our time together we will discuss the long history of opioids in our culture, how and why the brain responds to opioids like it does, our Wesleyan heritage of caring for those affected by substance use disorder, and ways our churches can truly become the Body of Christ in our communities. There is no text for this class, but there will be hands-on assignments to complete.
Registration deadline is February 13th. Register on-line here or print a paper form here.
STRATEGIC MINISTRY PLANNING with Ken Willard, WVUMC Director of Congregational Vitality
Tuesdays, March 7 - April 11, 2023 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
In 2023 many of us in churches find ourselves at a place where our church experience alone is not enough to guide us into God’s preferred future for our ministry. Strategic ministry planning helps us live into what we read in Joshua 3:4, “Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.”
We define strategic ministry planning as an intentional process used by church leaders to connect activities of the church to God’s plan and vision for their local church in the community.
During this series of sessions we will look at areas including: prayer, church life cycles, theology of change, core values, mission, vision, managing conflict, goals, and more. Our intention is for this learning to lead to action. Each person will be challenged to share learnings with other church leaders and to create a plan to implement these concepts.
*This class is an “other” advanced class – it will count toward maintaining Certified Lay Servant status, but it is not one of the required classes to become a Certified Lay Speaker.
There is no fee for this class, but you are responsible for purchasing the book on your own:
Strategy Matters: Your Roadmap for an Effective Ministry Planning Retreat by Kay Kotan and Ken Willard,
ISBN number: 978-1950899128. Available here: https://ken-willard-pcc.square.site/ and on Amazon and
Market Square books.
Registration deadline is February 14th. Register on-line here or print a paper form here.
