Coaching Clinics (Half Day Each)

Pastor/Parish Relations Committee: Helping Ministry Go Well with Amy Shanholtzer
This workshop is designed for chairpersons of PPR committees to learn about their role in the church. You’ll learn about the duties and expectations for you as a leader.

New Disciples in Your Church with Ken Willard
Want to reach new people and make disciples in your church? This is the workshop for you. Grab a friend and get some hands on tools for making connections with new folks. A great book to read before coming is Get Their Name by Bob Farr.

Growing Young: Children and Youth Leaders with Shea James (afternoon only)
Young people connect with each other and the world in ways previous generations could not imagine. In an over connected, over sensationalized, and over-scheduled world they are hungry for one thing: something real. Join us to learn about why some young people are turning away from church, and the reasons why others are staying. We'll look at churches with growing populations of young people and what they do well. There will be free resources and lots of good conversation. If you want your church to grow young, join us! (This class will focus on children ages 12-18)

Marketing and Social Media for Your Church with Dusty Merrill
Want to let your community know about your church? Come learn about some new tools to promote activities and let others know about your church in social media and other ways.

N.O.W. What Do I Do? The Nurture, Outreach, and Witness Ministries in the Life of the Church with Cindy Boggs
You have accepted the position as the coordinator of the Nurture, Outreach, or Witness ministries of your church and really don't know where to go from your 'yes'. This course will give you an overview of each of the ministries and your part as the coordinator. You will also be provided with resources to help move your church from the pews out into the community.

Finances and Statistical Reports for the Small Church with Steve Prince and Les Fish
Learn from small church leaders their methods of keeping track of finances in the church. Their tracking methods allow them to complete the year end statistical reports more easily and they'll teach you, too.

Helpshops (75 Minutes Each)

Death by Meeting with Brad Bennett
You'll learn how to plan a good meeting and keep it on track so you accomplish the work and keep from boring your audience. Death By Meeting by Patrick Lencioni is a great book to read for this workshop.

So, Now I'm the Lay Member to Annual Conference with Rich and Deborah Shaffer
You have been asked to attend Annual Conference as your church representative. What does that mean? The session will provide the tools to understand the language, navigate the WV Wesleyan campus, and receive additional tips from veteran conference attendees. Rich Shaffer is our Annual Conference Lay Leader and Deborah Shaffer is the Little Kanawha District Lay Servant Ministries Director.

Leading Difficult Conversations with Dave Freeman and Jennifer Sayers
Ever avoided having a hard conversation? Wish you could talk with a friend about something that is hard for you? Learn some skills and methods for having these discussions that matter. Anatomy of Peace by the Arbinger Institute is a great book to read to prepare for this workshop.

Creating a Ministry Outreach to Your Neighborhood School with Stephanie Bennett and members of Barrackville UMC
Join members from Barrackville and Monumental United Methodist Church as they share in conversation about how they were able to discern, plan and implement a ministry to the elementary school in their backyard.  They have an after school program called "Bisons for Christ", a ministry to teachers and prayer practices that support the outreach. Come learn more!
